The route in one breath

The Atlantic Immigration Program is real and federal: a full-time, non-seasonal job offer from a provincially designated employer in one of the four Atlantic provinces replaces the points race, and you can apply while living abroad. Sources: the program hub and the job offer rules.

• Prince Edward Island: applications limited to healthcare, construction and manufacturing. The notice and the designated employer list.
• New Brunswick: new employer designations paused, and offers to people outside Canada run through government-led recruitment in healthcare, education and construction; some hospitality and trucking roles are excluded. The notices.
• Nova Scotia: runs its own rules and has paused food and accommodation sector applications; jobs surface through its careers portal. The programme page.

Your own requirements (the candidate side)

Beyond the job offer, Canada's own eligibility asks for: at least one year of related work experience in the last five years (1,560 hours of real work, part-time allowed); education matched to the job level (a one-year post-secondary credential for managerial and professional roles, secondary school for others), with an educational credential assessment for foreign studies; language at CLB 5 for most roles or CLB 4 for the most hands-on tier (roughly IELTS General 5.0 and 4.0 bands, test under two years old); and settlement funds unless you're already working in Canada. The check before any payment (run it in ten minutes)

1. Ask the seller for the employer's exact legal name and province.
2. Open that province's designated list above and find the name. No name, no route, end of discussion.
3. Confirm the vacancy is real on the employer's own site or the province's job portal.

Then remember the law of this route: legitimate employers don't sell job offers, and recruiter fees for the job itself are a red flag everywhere in Canada's system. Anything that fails one of these three checks has answered your question for free.

Worked example, both endings

Blessing, a registered nurse, 6 years experience, IELTS ready: her move is direct. The PEI and NL lists, the NS careers portal, NB's health recruitment, applications to designated employers with a Canadian-format CV (the CV pack has the skeleton). She is who this route was narrowed FOR.

Emeka, a marketing manager: no Atlantic province is focusing on his field right now. His real options this season are Express Entry's French stream (invitations at 382 this month), or a different corridor entirely. Paying anybody to "switch him to Atlantic" buys him a queue that isn't moving.

Real questions, short answers

Can I apply without any job offer and "get matched"? No. Matching services selling access to this program are selling the free lists on this page.

Is the AIP list the same as LMIA jobs? No. AIP designated employers don't need an LMIA (the labour market permission other routes require); that's the whole attraction, and why the employer's designation status is everything.

How long does it take? Timelines shift with volumes; check the processing tool on canada.ca the week you apply.

Who this does not fit

Anyone whose trade isn't in the named sectors and who can't retrain into one soon. Provinces adjust these rules through the year; the pages above are the ones that count on the day you act.
