Erasmus Mundus for corpers and graduates: the catalogue, the documents, the calendar
Updated on 8 October 2026.
An Erasmus Mundus scholarship pays €1,400 a month (about ₦2.1m) for a master's in Europe, and most programmes take applications between October and January; Mundus MAPP's scholarship deadline is 1 December 2026. Each programme picks the scholars it funds, and nobody can promise you one.
This is the pack behind the MUNDUS video, from Rekoja's desk. It turns the service year into an application season: what Erasmus Mundus is, who it funds, how to pick programmes that actually fund people from Nigeria, the papers in order, and a calendar that ends at the passing-out parade with a plane ticket.
Which of these is you
- Here for Mundus MAPP, the public policy master's that closes 1 December 2026
- Corper or Batch C, degree in hand, want the calendar
- Want to know exactly what the scholarship pays
- Choosing programmes and reading the catalogue
- Final-year student, or HND holder, or over 30
What it pays
An Erasmus Mundus Joint Master is a master's designed and delivered by at least three universities in at least three countries, mostly in Europe; you study in at least two of them and graduate with a joint or multiple degree. The EU-funded scholarship for the best-ranked applicants covers your participation costs and pays €1,400 a month for a maximum of 24 months, a contribution to travel, visa and a living allowance: about ₦2.1m a month and up to about ₦50.3m over 24 months. Updated on 28 October 2026. The Programme Guide sets the scholarship at €1,400 a month times the programme's duration of 12, 18 or 24 months, covering travel, visa, settling in and living costs. On 16 July 2026 the European Commission announced 37 new Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters selected in the latest call, opening for student applications in the autumn of 2026 to start in September 2027, with EU-funded full scholarships available to students from across the world. Mundus MAPP: the public policy master's
Mundus MAPP, the Erasmus Mundus Master's Program in Public Policy, takes applications for its 2027 to 2029 class until 1 December 2026 at 23:59 Central European Time (11:59 pm in Nigeria), its deadline for the scholarship. Updated on 28 October 2026.
Its Erasmus Mundus scholarship pays €1,400 a month (about ₦2.1m), up to €33,600 (about ₦50.3m) over 24 months, with your tuition fees waived in full. It goes to the highest-ranked applicants, from inside and outside the EU, and the programme picks them: nobody can promise you a place or the money. Applying is free: you pay no application fee to Central European University (CEU), which runs the admissions, unless you also apply to its other programmes.
You spend the two years at two of four universities, on one of four tracks: CEU in Vienna with the Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) in Barcelona, CEU with the University of York, the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague with IBEI, or ISS with York. You choose your track on the form.
Who it takes: a bachelor's of at least three years, with a second class upper (2.1) or a GPA of 3.17 out of 4. A bachelor's in natural sciences or engineering cannot apply. Nigeria is on MAPP's list of countries whose citizens need no English certificate, if the degree was taught only in English; otherwise IELTS Academic 7 or TOEFL iBT 95, sent with the form.
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| Now | Applications for the 2027 to 2029 class are open |
| 1 December 2026, 23:59 CET (11:59 pm in Nigeria) | Deadline to be considered for the scholarship |
| 14 April 2027 | First-round decisions, scholarships included, in the Applicant Portal |
| 15 April 2027, 23:59 CET | Deadline for self-funded applicants from outside the EU or EEA |
The referee rule. Your referees cannot send their letters by email, fax or post. You give MAPP the names and email addresses of two referees, at least one of them a lecturer, and each gets an upload link only after you submit. They must upload "within 7 days of the application submission". Tell both today, take the email address each one actually reads, ask them to check their spam folder, and submit about a week before 1 December.
You apply only on CEU's application portal, with your transcript and degree certificate, a statement of no more than 500 words that names your track, your CV and your referees' details. Sources: Mundus MAPP, how to apply, with the portal link, and Mundus MAPP, admissions checklist.
Who this is for, and who it is not for, yet
| Situation | Reading |
|---|---|
| Bachelor's degree completed (any class of degree; most programmes ask for a second class upper or equivalent, some accept lower with strong references) | Apply this season |
| Final-year student graduating before September 2027 | Apply; proof of completion is required before enrolment |
| Currently serving (Batch A, B or C) | Apply this season; the programme starts the month service ends |
| HND holder | Most consortia require a bachelor's-level qualification of at least 180 ECTS; ask the specific programme in writing before applying, and consider a top-up or PGD route first |
| Over 30, or years out of school | No age limit; references and a strong motivation letter carry the file |
| Already holding a master's | You can apply, but many consortia favour first master's applicants; read each programme's rules |
There is no single application office. You apply directly to each programme's consortium through its own website, and each sets its own deadline, documents and language rules. Source: the Erasmus+ student page above; the Commission's page of 16 July 2026 confirms the 37 new masters open for student applications in autumn 2026.
Reading the catalogue
The official catalogue lists every currently funded programme and links to each consortium's site. Source: Erasmus Mundus catalogue, linked from the official student page. Four things to read on every programme page before it goes on your list:
- The scholarship quota for non-European ("partner country") students; some programmes fund two or three, others fifteen or more. Fewer than five means a harder fight.
- The deadline, separately for scholarship applicants and self-funded applicants; the scholarship deadline is usually earlier.
- The English rule: IELTS or TOEFL, or an accepted letter from your university confirming English as the language of instruction. Ask by email if the page is unclear; a two-line reply from the coordinator settles it.
- The exact documents and reference format; some consortia want referees to upload directly.
Pick three to five programmes across at least two of these three groups: one in your exact field, one adjacent field where your degree still fits, and one of the 37 new programmes (new programmes carry full scholarship quotas in their first intake).
The documents, in order
| # | Document | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Degree certificate, or a letter from your university confirming graduation date before September 2027 | Certified copy |
| 2 | Full transcript with the grading scale explained | Ask the exams office for the scale letter |
| 3 | Two academic references | Lecturers who taught you; use the email below |
| 4 | CV, two pages maximum, Europass format if the programme asks | Education, projects, any work, any volunteering |
| 5 | Motivation letter, one to two pages, written for each programme | Why this programme, what you will do with it, why now |
| 6 | English proof | IELTS/TOEFL, or the university's medium-of-instruction letter where accepted |
| 7 | Passport data page | Valid passport; apply now if you have none |
| 8 | Any publications, awards or NYSC community project evidence | Optional, but the CDS project is a real line on a European CV |
Tonight block: the reference email
Subject: Academic reference request: Erasmus Mundus application (deadline [date])
Dear Dr [surname],
I was your student in [course code and title] in [year], where I scored [grade]. I am applying for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in [programme name] and would be grateful if you would act as one of my two academic referees. The consortium asks for [a letter on university letterhead / an online form the referee completes]; the deadline is [date]. I have attached my transcript, CV and draft motivation letter so you have everything in one place. I will send a reminder one week before the deadline and will not need anything else from you.
Thank you for your teaching and your time.
[Full name], [matriculation number], [phone], [email]
Send it eight weeks before the deadline, not two.
The service-year calendar
| Month | Move |
|---|---|
| September (now) | Passport check; list ten programmes from the catalogue; email two coordinators about the English rule |
| October | Cut the list to five; order transcripts and the grading-scale letter; send the reference emails |
| November | Draft one master motivation letter, then adapt it per programme; CV in Europass format; English test booked only if a programme insists |
| December to January | Submit each application before its own deadline; scholarship deadlines first |
| February | Reserve applications: the same file goes to Türkiye Bursları, Stipendium Hungaricum and the Chinese Government Scholarship, whose windows overlap |
| March to June | Results; reserve-list offers go out between March and June, so keep your email and phone alive |
| July to August | Visa appointment at the embassy of the first host country; accommodation through the consortium |
| September 2027 | Passing-out parade, then departure |
A worked example
Chidi, 24, B.Sc Microbiology, second class upper, serving in Kwara, ₦77,000 a month allowance. September: passport renewed. October: five programmes, two in public health, two in food science, one of the 37 new ones in infectious diseases. Referee emails sent to two lecturers with his transcript attached. November: his university issues a medium-of-instruction letter; three of his five programmes accept it, so he books IELTS for the other two only if the budget allows, otherwise he swaps them for two more that accept the letter. December and January: five submissions. June: a reserve-list offer converts. September 2027: parade on a Thursday, flight the following week. His costs across the year: transcripts, the letter, passport, one IELTS at most, and courier fees; under ₦400,000 in total. If nothing converts, the same file is already inside three other funded programmes.
What quietly kills applications
- One application instead of five.
- A motivation letter copied across programmes with the names changed.
- Referees asked two weeks before the deadline.
- Missing the scholarship deadline while aiming at the later admission deadline.
- Paying an "agent" to submit a form: a programme the EU selected cannot charge an application fee. Updated on 28 October 2026. Source: the Programme Guide above.
Questions people ask (from the programme's own guidance)
Is there one deadline? No; each programme sets its own. In most cases, you submit between October and January for a course starting the following academic year. Updated on 28 October 2026. Source: the Erasmus+ student page above.
Can I apply in my final year? Yes, if you graduate before the programme begins and can prove it before enrolment.
Do I apply to the EU? No; you apply directly to the consortium running the programme.
Before you go
Your service year ends September 2027. So does the waiting. Send the two reference emails this week; the rest is a calendar.
